Hotel Ta Cenc, Sannat, Gozo Malta

Location

Situated on the outskirts of a sleepy village, Hotel Ta’ Cenc is sited on Gozo’s highest point and offers stunning views over the 1.5m sqm estate, the majestic cliffs and the islands of Malta and Comino. The EU recently designated the Ta’ Cenc habitat as a Special Area for Conservation under the European Natura 2000 network. The network protects the most important natural landsapes in Europe. It also supports the wider sustainabilility agenda, aims to keep our continent beautiful and encourages ecological diversity. The project also aims to protect our natural environment for aesthetic pleasure, artistic inspiration and recreation.
While exploring the Ta’ Cenc region look out for the following:

- Cart ruts are traces of parallel ruts said to have been created by the huge rocks dragged by Neolithic men. You will find them by walking along the promenade between the swimming pools, following the stone wall towards the cliffs to the end and turning right.
- The majestic Ta’ Cenc Cliffs - follow the path from the swimming pools to marvel at the 140m of white globigerina limestone that descends into the sea.
- The remains of Neolithic Dolmens found in several spots across Ta’ Cenc. They offeri a real taste of the long history of the region. Find them en-route from the promenade, turning left after the swimming pools, next to the tree on the road.
- The tower at the entrance to the hotel has become one of Hotel Ta’ Cenc’s trademarks. The building was originally used as a lime kiln creating a base for whitewashing buildings.
- Palazzo Palina was built between 1697 and 1720, during the rule of Grand Master Ramon Perellos Y Roccaful. The palazzo is surrounded by patios, gardens and also enjoys a splendid courtyard typical of local architecture.

Gozo is only 14km long and 7km wide - the sea, bars, shops and some of the finest restaurants in the Mediterranean are never more than a 15 minutes drive away. Cheap public transport is available, however car hire is relatively inexpensive and will give wider greater opportunities for exploring less accessible areas. All roads in Gozo lead to Victoria (approximaltey 5km from Ta’ Cenc) , also known as Rabat, which is where the fortified citadel sits atop a summit. It is a great place to watch the Islanders go about their day, especially when the main market square, It-Tokk, comes to life. The town also has a thriving cultural life all its own, with some surprising attractions ranging from opera to horse races in the main street on festa day. Ggantija Neolithic temples which is the oldest man made structure and a World Heritage Site is a short bus ride away from the Victoria bus terminus.

Gozo is about a 1.5 hour transfer from Malta International Airport by road, including the 25 minute ferry crossing from Cirkewwa in Malta to Mgarr in Gozo. The hotel has a car park.
