Marsalforn (The Bakery Port) is the foremost seaside resort for Malta holiday-makers in Gozo. During the summer months it becomes a sizeable town with its crowded vacation houses and hotels. Many Gozitan and also Maltese own summer houses, and they come here to spend the hot season by the cool waters.
The tourist trade has upgraded the image of this resort, and today it is a holiday centre with hotels, tourist apartments, guest-houses, restaurants and souvenir outlets for the numerous Malta holiday-makers. Such buildings are constantly increasing everywhere on the outskirts of the town particularly towards nearby Qbajjar Bay.
Marsalforn Bay faces north and, occasionally, it may be subject to heavy storms, but in summer the sea in the bay is generally calm, limpid and unspoiled. It is ideal for bathing. Many swim off the rocks, where the water is at its best. Families on Malta holidays with children relax on the sheltered sandy bank and watch their youngsters splash in the sea.
In the street bordering the shoreline are look-out spots with seats where one can stop and glance at the sea. On the landward side, the street is lined with outdoor cafes and souvenir shops.
Night-time is not characterised by the bustle of the major resorts.
However, the seafront promenade is lively with people strolling round to the sound of music.
Marsalforn is also a busy fishing-port, where one can see the big "luzzijiet" ( fishing boats) afloat or ashore at the artificial enclave close by the large hotel.
Marsalforn is not a parish, it is essentially a summer resort where most activities cease during the winter months. The little church of St.Paul caters for the spiritual needs of the inhabitants and of the numerous Malta holiday-makers in summer.
