The Malta Experience, an international award-winning audio visual spectacular has delighted over 4.5 million visitors since its creation back in 1980.

Now in its 5th edition, the theme brings the element of the sea as the islands natural resource to portray Maltas unique 7,000 year history using the latest in digital technology to combine sensational photography and re-enacted motion clips interspersed throughout the 43 minute presentation. Complementing this version, the company initiated further product development in its multi-lingual system which now hosts 16 simultaneous narrations, to suit the ever-growing visitor nationalities to the island.

The attraction is ranked among the islands most popular tourist destination. Rightly positioned as the ideal start to one’s sight-seeing itinerary, it is the only production that presents a quick entertaining yet informative guide of the islands history up to present day.

The Malta Experience is aptly housed within the Mediterranean Conference Centre formerly the Sacra Infermeria of the Knights of St. John. Until recently, access to this monumental building would only be possible during formal events associated with conference, corporate incentives and theatre entertainment. Today the Centre is also open to the general public to admire its architecture as well as its history. Visitors to The

Malta Experience may add, at a nominal fee, a visit of the Sacra Infermeria after the show. Guided tours are held regularly throughout the day.

This new product comprises a 40 minute walk-through along the main halls with verbal commentary by a professional guide trained specifically to convey an interesting account of the Centre which combines myth and fact in a light-hearted way that is suited for all types of visitors. Cassiere in 1574 was considered among the best hospitals in Europe able to accommodate up to 914 patients at its maximum. Its Long Ward measuring 155 meters in length was known to be among the longest non-supporting structures in Europe at the time.

Supplementing the core product, The Malta Experience provides its visitors the convenience for souvenir shopping offering a varied selection of the more traditional items of glass, filigree, pottery, books and more.

Situated at the edge of the bastion promontory, the cafe terrace offers majestic land and seascape scenery of Malta’s renowned Grand Harbour whilst enjoying a wide selection of tasteful delights.

The newly-opened Palazzo de Piro Cultural Centre will be hosting a series of recitals of excellent quality which will be organized by Barocco Cultural Events in Malta.  The restored noblemans house which has been opened as a cultural centre is the venue for major exhibitions and premier national artistic and heritage events and exhibitions. The recitals planned for the forthcoming months blend thoroughly with the elegant and beautiful ambience of the Palazzo which exudes the wonderful sense of history and the roots of the nation.

The Malta Carnival brings along with it visions of colour, festivities and exuberance.  To celebrate this event with style, the first concert to be held at the magnificent Palazzo De Piro at Mdina Malta, is going to be A Baroque Carnival.  As grand as the baroque period, this concert is set to be a colourful and exuberant performance. The performance is going to feature an unusual instrumental formation of two flutes and a cello.

The concert is going to highlight the musical works of two prominent Baroque composers par excellence: J.S. Bach and Antonio Vivaldi.  The latter is a native of Italys Venice, a city which is synonymous of the exuberant baroque carnival.  Vivaldis works all convey this expression of exuberance and magnificence, colour and movement.  J.S. Bach, a German composer, is the total expression of the German Baroque movement and he is revered for his intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty.

The programme will feature J.S. Bachs Partita in G Major and  Trio Sonata in E Minor, Antonio Vivaldis Trio Sonata in C Major and the French baroque composer Bois Mortiers Concerto for two flutes. 

The trio who will be performing the sparkling recital will be Silvio Zammit and Ramona Zammit Formosa (flutes) and Simon Abdilla Joslin (cello).  The performers are well-known musicians who excel in their performances.

The discovery was made by the Malta Rock Climbing Club in Wied il-Ghasel, Mosta.

Buried under vegetation and rubble from a nearby quarry, the staircase – cut from stone – connects the bottom of the valley to the unearthed site.

Employees of the Rural Affairs Ministry and 15 climbers cleared the. Club president Andrew Warrington draw attention to the fact that a significant part of Malta’s military heritage had been saved, while the staircase would improve access to the area.

The Victoria Lines run along a natural geographical barrier known as the Great Fault. The network of fortifications cut across the width of the island north of the old capital of Mdina, was a unique monument of military architecture. They were built by the British between 1870 and 1899 as a first line of defence.

Works on this project started in October 2011. It is planned that the project will be completed by the end of 2012 although components of the project may be completed and in operation before this date.

The project will be spread over approximately 20,000 square meters and will comprise a public aquarium, a public garden at promenade level, multi storey car park, facilities for local dive schools, catering facilities including a reef club, a merchandise outlet and a tourist information kiosk.

The public aquarium will have more than 25 display tanks with, amongst others, Mediterranean fish, commonly found in Maltese waters together with replicas of historical artefacts that one can find in the seas around us.

The main tank of the aquarium will house species from the Indian Ocean, including two shark species. The main tank will be approximately 12 meters in diameter. Visitors will be able to go through a water tunnel thereby experiencing the fish at a much closer range.

All tanks will be expertly themed to replicate the underwater environment. Additional features of the public aquarium include a class room facility, interpretation, touch pools, a temporary exhibition space, veterinary and quarantine facilities, etc.

The national aquarium will be housed in an underground building located under the promenade level.  However, its entrance facilities are being housed in an iconic curved shell structure in the form of a starfish.  

The garden will provide additional recreation facilities for pedestrians who use the popular Qawra promenade. The car park will have a capacity of over 140 cars.

AT THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF VICTORY

Din l-Art Helwa are soon to start the restoration of the Church of Our Lady of Victory and need to raise substantial funds over the coming years. they have been fortunate to receive many offers of support for this most challenging of projects and there are two wonderful musical events they wish to share with you immediately, so before you get flooded with Christmas activities please make a note of the following dates.

These are the first two events being staged by Din l-Art Helwa in this historic and sacred place now formally transferred into our care by Guardianship Deed from the State. We thank the following performing artists for their generosity of spirit as both have given their services to this cause free of charge enabling us to bring you some joyous music.

Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex will be visiting Malta this November as a special guest of the President's Award Malta. His visit will be in preparation for the forthcoming International Award Forum. This triennial event is chaired by Prince Edward and brings together the National Award Authorities of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award from all over the world and in 2012 it will be hosted in Malta.

Malta is the ideal location to host this prestigious event, Prince Edward has visited several times and his parents Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip lived there. The Queen and her husband lived in the village of Gwardamanġa between 1949 and 1951 while

During his visit, Prince Edward will attend a variety of events and will be guest of honour at a fundraising dinner on November 15 2011. Some of the funds raised will be donated to local charitable organisations Inspire and to Equal Partners Foundation.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Programme, known locally as The President's Award, empowers 14-25 year olds to take up life's opportunities, regardless of their gender, background or location. Launched in the UK in 1956 as The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, more than seven million young people from 132 countries have taken part in The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award to date. The Programme aims to be the leading youth achievement award for young people that brings together experiences and life skills to create committed citizens of the world.

Din l-Art Helwa are very pleased to announce that the Government of Malta has approved that the Church of Our Lady of Victory, Valletta, is to be handed over in guardianship to Din l-Art Helwa.  

This is a momentous achievement for Din l-Art Helwa and a merited culmination of 46 years of work.  The project to restore and enhance this jewel of religious, historic and cultural heritage will be another huge challenge for Din l-Art Helwa.

This news is to be announced at a joint press conference with the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, the Environment and Culture, Dr Mario de Marco after Mass on Thursday 8th September at the Church itself.
