Is your holiday lacking a little buzz or excitement? Fear not I have the perfect adventure that’s awaiting your arrival.
The Captain Morgan Defender tour around Malta/Gozo is a fantastic way to add some extra enjoyment to your stay! These impressive Land Rover Defender Jeeps took me to parts of the island I’m sure not even some of the locals know about. Impressive you say? Well impressed you will be when you experience this tour for yourself.
There are separate tours for Malta and Gozo, both as thrilling and luxurious as each other plus with the tours going 6 days a week and all year round, you have the flexibility to fit it in when it suits you.
I was lucky enough to experience the Defender tour with luxury Maltese highlights and a spot of lunch. I was collected at my hotel in a very smart Defender Jeep at around 8am which is fairly decent time for an all-day adventure I must say. If you are taking the tour in the Summer like me then do not panic they have air conditioning.
First up was Mizieb and onto the Red Tower not forgetting one of my favourites ‘Popeye Village’ here we did make a stop but I’m told this is optional. After Popeye village is when the excitement begins. We made our way to Golden Bay by off road track. I know what you are thinking but it’s totally safe however if you have a bad back or neck I would probably advise against this trip. We made it to Golden Bay and here we were given the opportunity to have drink which was a refreshing welcome.
Next on the itinerary took us across to Mgarr to witness the incredible views of Fomm ir-Rih. We were then taken to Mdina (known as the Silent City) once there we had around 40 minutes to explore Malta’s old capital. From Mdina we went on Mosta where we again stopped to continue our exploration including a chance to visit Mosta Dome. A 30 minure pit stop at Naxxar, during which we wandered around the narrow alleys and streets with a quick refreshment in the Village Square, just before lunch. Now when I mentioned a spot of lunch previously, I should have said a 3 course meal at an award winning restaurant. Which was absolutely delicious, well worth the wait and the Wine (which is included).
After lunch we drove round Valletta, ‘Malta’s Capital City’ with superb views of the Grand Harbour. Next Vittoriosa for a 30 minute stop. Now if you didnt know Vittoriosa, also known as Birgu, it is packed with historical treasure so the short stop here is definitely worth it.
We were then chauffeured to the Neolithic Temples of Ħal Tarxien for a short stay. Almost towards the end of the tour we were then driven to Marsaxlokk Fishing Village, then to the Blue Grotto for a 30 minute stop. To make the most of this stop I recommend the small boat trip to the amazing cave, although the boat trip is optional and is also weather permitting. Such a perfect way to end the day as after this we were dropped back at the hotel.
So Let’s recap, if you are looking for a tour to explore either Malta or Gozo with a pinch of adventure and luxury but prefer not to travel by boat or coach then this is the one for you. Like most tours this does get booked and with limited places available it is advisable to book early.
