Gozo Towns
We have put together a guide to places in Gozo. Below is a list of major Gozo towns and villages with helpful information on places in Gozo and Gozo sites.
Dwejra, Gozo
Three curious phenomena at Dwejra are the Inland Sea, Fungus Rock and the Azure Window. Unfortunately the Azure Window as pictured above collapsed in March 2017. IT-TIEQA or WINDOW is another wonder of nature in Dwejra's rocky environment. Rather than a window it was more a door-like formation at the sea-end of the cliff.

Gharb, Gozo
This village of about 1000 inhabitants lies in the western part of Gozo. 'Gharb', in fact, means 'the West'. It started as a small hamlet a long way back in history, and one can still see ancient houses with decorated stone balconies in the parish church area.Gharb has delightful countryside around it, particularly at Dbiegi…

Ghasri, Gozo
Ghasri is the smallest village of Gozo. The village lies cuddled between the hills of Zebbug and Ghammar. The name has obvious Arab origins, possibly being an area where olives were crushed for oil. Ghasri is reached by forking right on the Victoria-Gharb road just after the Aqueduct…

Marsalforn, Gozo
Marsalforn is by far Gozo’s most popular tourist resort, well served with hotels, apartments, bars, restaurants and diving amenities. Originally a small but busy fishing community, this activity is now almost elbowed out by tourism, though a small and colourful fishing harbour still holds its own right in the centre of the bustling seaside town…

Mgarr, Gozo
Mgarr Bay serves the dual function of Gozo's main harbour and the foremost fishing port. The gaily-painted fishing boats offer a splendid first impression to visitors arriving at the quay; Mgarr is the terminal and embarkation point for the frequent ferry-boats plying between the two islands…

Munxar, Gozo
The village of Munxar lies to the South on the island of Gozo, between Xlendi Valley and the village of Sannat. Wedged between the sloping sides of two parallel valleys Munxar offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in Gozo. Munxar derives from Arabic meaning bucksaw, a description perhaps of the sheer rock faces of the scenic gorge nearby which seem deliberately cut out of the countryside. The ravine was in fact a river bed in the ice age…

Nadur, Gozo
In-Nadur lies on the easternmost hill of Gozo. It is an interesting traditional village and affords fabulous views over land and sea. It is reached either from ir-Rabat or directly from Mgarr Harbour. The baroque Parish Church dominates in-Nadur's skyline and is one of Gozo's best pieces of baroque architecture…

Qala, Gozo
Qala is the farthest village from Gozo’s capital, Victoria, it is the closest to the rest of the Maltese archipelago, and the rocky hillsides of Qala enjoy an unobstructed view of the islands of Malta and Comino. Awesome scenes can be enjoyed, among other places, from the Qala Belvedere and from the small courtyard in front of the church known as II-Madonna tal-Blat (Saint Mary of the Rocks)…

San Lawrenz, Gozo
San Lawrenz is a small charming village on the western part of Gozo. It is built on a plain surrounded by three hills, Ta' Ghammar, Ta' Gelmus and Ta' Dbiegi. The last mentioned, Ta' Dbiegi, rises 195 metres above sea level and is Gozo's highest point. In the limits of San Lawrenz there is also the splendid bay of Dwejra, renowned for its strange geological faults and admired by tourists and locals alike…

Sannat, Gozo
Sannat or more precisely Ta' Sannat, lies to the south of the island of Gozo. The name is probably derived from that of an Arabic-Greek family that moved to Gozo from Sicily. Mgarr ix-xini Bay At Ta' Cenc, within the limits of ta' Sannat, there is L-Imramma Temple, a primitive type prehistoric temple made up of a sort of an oval court with a series of more or less oval rooms to the north…

Victoria, Gozo
Victoria, variously known as Rabat or even simply as il-belt (the town) by the locals, is for all intents and purposes Gozo’s ‘capital’ and its administrative centre. It is a largish sprawling town with a population of 6,000 with a lively core centred on its twin quarters of the Citadel and the maze of narrow streets around St. George’s Basilica…

Xaghra, Gozo
Xaghra Village was formerly called Caccia (hunting), probably because the high plateau on which it stands used to be a favourite spot for bird and hare shooting. Its present name, Xaghra, means scrubland which also hints at its hunting tradition. The famous temples of Ggantija and the Neolithic site of Sta…

Xewkija, Gozo
The village of Xewkija (pronounced show-key-ya) is located in the south of Gozo, a short distance from the Mgarr Harbour. At the heart of the village you will find a rather large Rotunda Church that dominates the Xewkija skyline. The church was completed in 1971 after 20 years in the building and many say it is Gozo's answer to the Mosta Dome…

Xlendi, Gozo
The tiny resort of Xlendi is dramatically sited at the mouth of a deep ravine, with steep cliffs tumbling down to the water on the bay’s northern arm. Xlendi started its life as a miniscule fishing community but the clear seas and the cliffs which guard the mouth of the bay made for the perfect resort when tourism started making headways in the sixties and seventies…

Zebbug, Gozo
Zebbug derives its name from the Maltese word, olive. It is situated in the northern part of Gozo and is about 3.5 km away from Victoria (Rabat). A steep road from the village leads downhill to the lovely bays of Marsalforn, Qbajjar and Xwejni. These bays, apart from sheltering local fishing vessels, are excellent swimming and diving zones, popular amongst locals and tourists alike…
