Festas are a regular feature in Malta's calendar of events.

At any time of the year something is happening in Malta and that usually means celebration, fun and merriment. Malta enjoys an events calendar featuring an exciting mix of local and international events. Whatever your particular interest may be, you are certain to find activities to enjoy. Take your pick from performances by international contemporary music stars, classical music concerts and jazz festivals, amongst many others.

Malta's vibrant performing arts scene also offers a surprisingly diverse repertoire of theatre, opera, and dance. Moreover, the Maltese islands play host to an exciting array of international sporting events.

The re-enactment portrays the inspection of the fort and its garrison by the Grand Bailiff of the Order of the Knights of St. John in charge of military affairs.

 

Independency Day 21st Sept 2015

Malta gained its political Independence from Britain on the 21st of September 1964. On the night of the 20-21st September, the Maltese flag was raised at Independence Arena, Floriana, amidst the cheers of the large crowd present. Malta had become an independent nation.

On the 13th December 1974 the Maltese Constitution was amended and Malta became a Republic, having Sir Anthony Mamo as its first President.
Activities marking this historic date take place every year, mostly in Valletta.

 

Bethlehem F'Ghajnsielem 15th Dec 2015 - 6th Jan 2016

Bethlehem f' Ghajnsielem is an animated nativity village spread on 20,000sqm of land. It offers naturalistic reproduction of the environ of Bethlehem and the timeless story of Nativity every December at 'Ta Passi' fields in Ghajnsielem.

Valletta International Baroque Festival 2016 16th Jan - 30th Jan 2016

Built by the Knights of St John after the Great Siege of 1565 and consequently adorned by its eight langues, Valletta not only had to serve as a powerful fort, but was also to become a strongpoint of culture, economy and politics in the world. 

 

Feast of St.Paul's Shipwreck 10th Feb - 10th Feb 2016

The first of the year's major feasts is celebrated in the Parish Church of St. Paul Shipwrecked in Valletta and in the streets of Malta's capital city. It commemorates the shipwreck of the Apostle St. Paul on the Maltese Islands, an event which took place in 60 AD and which is recorded in the Acts of the Apostles.

 

Freedom Day 31st Mar - 31st Mar 2016

On 31st March 1979, the Defence Treaty with Britain came to an end as the last British forces left the Island.
Activities commemorating this important historic date take place every year, mostly in Vittoriosa where the monument marking this event is situated.

 

Feast of St.Philip 12thJun- 12th Jun 2016

The Feast of St. Philip is celebrated in the town of Zebbuġ in Malta.
Zebbug holds its annual Festa on the second Sunday in June; so it’s a good time to get a feel of the village buzz. There are week long activities leading to the day, adding to the festive mood.
