Getting To Stansted Airport
Stansted is the furthest of the London airports, sitting 40 miles out of the city centre. For those travelling to the airport by car, it helps that the M25 can be used to avoid travelling through London itself. The airport sits right beside the M11, so those driving from the London direction simply need to take junction 8a. If you use sat nav or a mobile app for directions should know that the postcode for the airport is CM24 1RW.
The airport has its own railway station sitting right under the terminal building. The Stansted Express is the main train route to the station. Departing from Liverpool Lime Street, it takes an average of 47 minutes to get to the airport.
National Express also runs regular coach services between the airport and various tube stations including Victoria, Kings Cross and Liverpool Street. These take slightly longer depending on the time of day and destination.
At The Airport
You’ll see a lot of familiar high street names if you’re looking to take part in a little pre-flight shopping. Boots, Dixons, Fat Face, Rituals, Dune, Superdry and many others all have stores in the departure area.
There is also a great variety of places to eat before your flight too with tastes to suit all budgets from the likes of Burger King, Costa, James Martin Kitchen, Giraffe, Starbucks and Halo.
If you’re a smoker, please note that once you go through security there are no designated smoking areas in the departure lounge.
