The Best Bays and Beaches in Mellieha Malta
For anyone staying in and around Mellieha
you’ll be glad to know that you’re right on the doorstep of the biggest beach in Malta
. Mellieha Bay is great for all types of beach-goers; from those who just want to work on their tan, to water sports enthusiasts who love it out in the water, to families who need a good range of services to make sure their trip goes without a hitch.
The Mellieha sandy beach is well looked after in terms of what you can do and what you need. There are food and drink stands, chair rental, restrooms dotted along the bay and a fulltime lifeguard on duty. Because of the length of the bay and its width, the water is quite shallow for a good distance. If you’re going to be visiting the beach with small children this makes it the perfect kind of area to let them safely wade out in shallow water as it doesn’t really gain any depth until you’re roughly 50m out in the water.
The bay isn’t exactly one big beach. Rocky areas split the beach in to three distinct beaches with their own characteristics. For those who aren’t deterred by busy beaches with people doing everything from playing around and listening to music, you’ll fit nicely right in the middle. The right beach is usually where families prefer to go as it is closest to db Seabank Resort & Spa
and Luna Holiday Complex
Just a little trip away from Mellieha to the other side of the island (roughly 1 mile west) is the Anchor Bay Dive site. It is a rocky beach but that doesn’t put locals off who come here to watch others dive in the clear blue waters. This beach is best for adults as the water is quite deep and the ground on the slopes downwards can be quite rough, so we wouldn’t advise taking children here.
