Malta - first island in the world to have a 'White Flag' beach

Yet another international first for Malta.

Malta has become the first island in the world to have a 'White Flag' beach. The white flag status is given to beaches which are free of litter.

Malta currently has 30% of its waters designated as Marine Protected Area's or Special Protection Area's. The status of 'white flag' beach in Wied iz-Zurrieq highlights the important role in the conservation of marine sites around the island and shows the committment that Malta has in the protection and conservations of its caves, reefs, beaches and waters.

Malta & Gozo has a mainly rocky coastline, however, a number of beaches can be found along streches of its shores. There are a number of hidden gems and secluded secret coves although one of the most popular beaches in Malta is Mellieha Bay.
