Public Transport in Xaghra
For those staying in Xaghra, or in fact anywhere on Gozo, we recommend car hire if you want to get about the island, its by far the most convenient and easiest way to travel. Public transport in Gozo is not the same as in Malta, there is a regular bus service although the busses are less frequent.

Gozo is also a great place to go walking. At only 4 miles wide and 8 miles long, you are only a scenic stroll from the next village.

Chevron provide complimentary transfers with all package bookings to and from the airport, however, if you plan on taking the journey yourself it involves a three part journey.

Taxis from the airport are available to Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal for approximately €32. From there a 20 minute journey by ferry will take you to the Gozo Ferry Terminal at Mgarr Harbour. White private taxis operate in Gozo too and much like on Malta, there is fierce competition between local firms. This means that fares are quite cheap and it is extremely convenient to trvel to Xaghra or indded get anywhere you want in Gozo by cab.

By bus the X1 express from the airport will take you to Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal. In Gozo, the 322 bus is the best route straight to Xaghra and the accommodation on offer. The quickest route from arrivals in the airport to Xaghra is by car. The journey, including taking the ferry, takes 1 hour 30 minutes.

If you do plan on using Xaghra Malta transport and buses to get about, it is worth noting that bus tickets purchased in Malta are not valid for use in Gozo and vice versa.
